Just saw it, and I recommend it. I watched damn few TV series in my teens, but Miami Vice was #1. The movie is not a duplication of the TV series (note - same director - and he did not want to just duplicate the series), but is a 2006 version.
My criticisms: (1) too much on the background "we have feelings, we love our girlfriends" stuff. We get the point, now MOVE ON.
(2) I had the thought that some people may have trouble following some things - like the actor saying "we front in plata but pay in plomo" - means "we pay in silver (money) but pay in lead" (bullets - that is, kill them). Gotta know some Spanish, mano!
(3) I would have preferred some of the original music or something modern that did a better job of recreating the series-type music.
Cool stuff:
Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle.
Very realistic weapons and shootouts. You can hear the bullets hit the car bodies and the empty shell casings bounce on the ground.
Severely mean-ass little blonde Latina that works with Crockett and Tubbs. Should have seen more of her character.
Go-fast boats. Heavy horsepower is always cool.
