Great article! Kind of like the joke (although too true to really be funny) that a Republican is a Democrat who was mugged. Funny what a little dose of reality does to people.

Ok, so my coworker has given me some additional advice and a copy of SOG International (gun store out of Ohio). What's everybody think of a Mossberg Md 500ATP (w/folding stock)? 195$
He favors the AR15 over the mini-14. He says he can get one for less than 500$ What about an AK for the rifle? They are quite a bit cheaper to buy....<300$

Big fan of the Mossburg 500 here. As for the rifle, I'd probably go with the AK over an AR. They're both good weapons, but the AK uses a 7.62x39 round, with greater punch than the .223(5.56). Plus, they function really well with little to no maintenance or cleaning.Just kick the bigger chunks of mud out of the barrel with your boot once in a while.

Yeah, I'd go with the AK, too.

You are getting some good advice, and at some point it becomes personal preference. I personally like the AR over the Mini-14 and the AK, but that's the weapon I've used more than the others. Mini 14 in my opinion is a better gun than the AK, but I guess I just like buying American, and "Bill Ruger don't make no sh@t!!" A lot of people swear by the AK though, so if you like it, buy it. I'd advise against the folding stock, unless you plan on folding it up and robbing liquor stores! Miserable b@stard to shoot in the collapsed mode, and uncomfortable to shoot extended for very long. Your buddies will laugh at you too when you bring it to the dove shoot! Pistol is much easier to manuver with around your furniture, and unless you are going to spend the money for a weapon mounted light, it's very difficult to handle a shotgun and a flashlight at the same time. I'm all for synthetic stocks, but I'd steer away from the sexy (read stupid) folding stocks if I were you. Be safe, ICE

Gotta agree with ICE about the folding stock. I just never saw a big advantage to them, and they are kind of painfull to fire like that.Just the thing for those liquor store take-downs, though!
