Two comments here - the first is that if you get an air asset (UAV, airstrike, or helicopter) and get killed before you use it, it does not go away. Simply respawn and then use it.
Secondly, if you don't use it and then get enough kills to get the next air asset, then you DO lose the first one! For example, sometimes I have gotten an airstrike but did not know where the enemy was, so I waited to use it. Then I got another kill and the helicopter support, but now the airstrike was gone.
So it may be better to drop an airstrike in a place that isn't the best in order to get the points - use it or lose it.
