OK, I know I'm really late seeing this movie. Anyway, thanks to Ashley for her FAQ:

But I was bothered with the remaining questions that a pretty thorough search of the 'Net wasn't answering. So without further ado, I present my timeline of events:
[ PU = Primary Universe, TU = Tangent Universe]
Actual sequence of events if something goes back in time (all events in PU):
Oct 2 Nothing happens this first time through, since we have never been to Oct 30 yet.
Oct 30 Engine falls off, goes back in time
Oct 2 Have to loop back here for a 2nd time; engine hits
Oct 30 The engine falls off, but only if during the Oct 2 – Oct 30 period (while we go through it for the 2nd time), nothing occurs to prevent the engine from falling off. However, we know which engine fell off, so we would take steps to prevent its falling off on Oct 30.
Now we've really corrupted time, because we had a non-event on Oct 2, a paradox on the Oct 30 – loop back to Oct 2, and then a non-event on Oct 30 since we would never let that engine fly again. So in our 2nd pass through Oct 2, an event occurs which has no cause, as the engine is prevented from the Oct 30 fall.
So what has to occur is:
Oct 2 PU is paused (or the TU events all occur in a nanosecond, same thing, take your pick)
Oct 2 TU Frank-Bunny saves Donnie
Oct 2-30 TU events occur as in movie; Donnie pulls engine into wormhole to go back in time to PU; TU blinks out of existence
Oct 2 PU Donnie is killed
Oct 30 PU the engine does not fall but PU is not corrupted since the engine came from the TU.
So the engine hits in TU on Oct 2, falls off jet in TU Oct 30, hits in PU Oct 2 and does not fall off of jet in PU Oct 30.
Complete timeline is:
Oct 2 PU nothing happens this first time through, since we have never been to Oct 30 yet
Oct 30 PU engine falls off, goes back in time. PU is paused or events in TU occur in a nonasecond
Oct 2 TU engine hits but Donnie is away
Oct 2-30 TU events occur as in movie; Donnie pulls engine into wormhole to go back in time to PU; TU blinks out of existence
Oct 2 redux PU Donnie is killed
Oct 30 PU the engine does not fall and PU is not corrupted.
So the only paradox we have here is that there are 2 identical engines; however, that does not cause corruption. In The Philosophy of Time Travel, it is written that the Artifact will remain, and notes the Mayan warrior and the knight who were killed with weapons that should not have existed at that point in time and space.
